Immigration office
The Foreigners' Registration Office of the City of Gera decides on applications from foreign residents under residence law, advises on ways to consolidate residence and, if necessary, takes measures to terminate residence, e.g. expulsion and deportation.
Until further notice, personal visits to the Foreigners' Registration Office are only possible by appointment.

Please send any questions regarding current application procedures or basic questions on immigration law to auslaenderwesen@gera.de, stating your request, full name, date of birth and address.We would like to point out that there are currently delays in processing applications. Processing is prioritized according to urgency and order of receipt. We therefore ask you to refrain from submitting status requests so that the case handlers can concentrate on processing the cases.
Documents are issued without an appointment at the following times:
Tuesday 09.00 - 12.00 and 14.00 - 17.00
Thursday 14.00 - 17.00
Please note that authorization must be proven by presenting the PIN letter or a confirmation of completion from the foreigners authority.
You can also authorize another person to collect your documents. Your representative must present a Pick-up authorization, their own identity card or passport and your old residence permit.
In the case of minors (up to the age of 16), the legal representative (parent) can collect the eAT. From the age of 16, it should be noted that the legal representative (parent) can only collect the eAT upon presentation of a Pick-up authorization receives the eAT.
What documents are required?
Please always bring your valid passport or identity document with you when you visit us. Further documents may be required depending on your request. You will be informed of the required documents when you make your appointment.
What fees apply?
Fees may apply. The respective fees depend on your request and the purpose of your stay and are due when you submit your application.
If you receive benefits in accordance with the Second or Twelfth Book of the German Social Security Code or the Asylum Seekers' Benefits Act, it will be checked whether you are exempt from the fees. Please submit your current benefit notification for this purpose.
What deadlines do I have to observe?
Please apply for an extension of your residence permit at least 3-4 months before your previous residence permit expires.
Please send us your complete and signed applications and documents for the application/issue or extension of stays online or by post. It is not necessary to submit your application in person. You can find the relevant application forms here under Downloads. It is essential that you submit a biometric photo. We have compiled a list of the required documents that we need to process your application here. Please also let us know your e-mail address or telephone number.
