The city of Gera operates a municipal and regional library with a main library and a district library. The library's task is to provide all sections of the population with affordable access to knowledge, information, research and culture close to their homes, to promote the competent and critical use of modern media and to increase the educational opportunities of children and young people. It is used for vocational training and further education as well as for promoting reading and is a place of communication. As a specialist for media and information services, you are a guide in the ever-increasing jungle of information.

- Procurement, indexing, provision and communication of media and information
- Dealing with information and communication resources and media
- Media and data management
- Advice and support for library users
- Public relations, promoting the library and working on projects
- Sorting, shelving and presenting media to the public
